***This Tech Talk at Fred Hutch has been rescheduled due to weather conditions! Hope you can join us on January 22nd!***
Gretchen Krenn, Program Manager for Fred Hutch Data Visualization
With over a decade of experience in cancer research, six of those years at Fred Hutch, Gretchen currently serves as Manager at the Center for Data Visualization. In this role, she explores how technology and design aid visual storytelling within the omics space.
Dora Dong, Data Scientist
Dora is a Data Scientist at Fred Hutch, working on machine learning to understand patient outcomes. She organized machine learning and deep learning study groups through SeaWiDS in 2018 - 2019.
Jenny Smith, Research Bioinformatician
Jenny has been a bioinformatician in the Meshinchi Laboratory for three years working in pediatric acute myeloid leukemia research. She performs analyses on large multidimensional next-generation sequencing data sets, such as transcriptional profiling with RNA-seq, in order to identify therapeutic targets and provide insights into the underlying biology of the disease.
Tentative agenda:
6:00 - 6:30 Networking/ Intro
6:30 - 6:50 Gretchen Krenn
6:50 - 7:10 Dora Dong
7:10 - 7:30 Jenny Smith
7:30 - 8:00 Q&A
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is an independent nonprofit research institute where than 230 faculty members lead interdisciplinary teams in seeking new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. In 2018, Fred Hutch instantiated the Translational Data Science Integrated Research Center to build on recent data-based advances in the biomedical sciences, including technologies that are driving the generation of massive datasets, the exponential growth of publicly available data, and revolutionary approaches in statistics, machine learning and artificial intelligence that are changing data analysis.
Parking and transit info:
Please note there is very limited parking due to construction, if possible please walk/bike, take public transit, or rideshare to attend. Visitor parking is limited to two hours. There is some paid street parking available as well.
Public Transit: Seattle King County Metro’s RapidRide C Line, no. 70 bus, and the South Lake Union Streetcar all serve Fred Hutch. There are many other options that are just a short walk to the campus.

Our Mission: SeaWiDS is a supportive community that focuses on inspiring and empowering women in data science through professional development, knowledge sharing, and mentorship.
'Seattle Women in Data Science' was founded in February 2018 by Mahnaz Akbari with the intention to create a safe and welcoming space for women in data science to connect and excel together. Although our events are open to everybody, we host only female/non-binary speakers to highlight the role of this group in this field.
