WiDS 2021 Datathon Studio (Puget Sound) -- week 1 start collaboration

  • Seattle United States (map)

Every year, the WiDS initiative organizes a kaggle competition to foster/promote learning, creativity and improving data science skills called WiDS datathon(https://www.widsconference.org/datathon.html). This year is no exception and our regional conference is organizing a series of events focused on collaboration called Puget Sound datathon studio.

The Datathon Studio is a series of virtual meetings where you would be able to join other competitors, interact with regional mentors and seasoned data science practitioners and learn about machine learning competitions. We encourage participation of people with all levels of expertise and desire to learn and show their machine learning approaches.

The timeline for the events is the following:

Week 1 -- Get familiar with Kaggle and set collaboration mechanisms.
Week 2 -- Data Exploration and feature engineering.
Week 3 -- Baseline modeling.
Week 4 -- Improve baseline models.
Week 5 -- Submit the test set predictions from the improved models to Kaggle.

This event is for the first week of the timeline, even though the focus of the meeting will be about kaggle technical details and collaboration you can join and bring questions about any challenge you are facing in the competition.

We are gathering questions and suggestions for topics to discuss in the #wids_datathon_2021 slack channel (join our slack here https://datacircles.org/join-us)

At the end of the series you will have the opportunity to participate in the WiDS Puget Sound conference https://www.widspugetsound.org/ describing your solution for the datathon.
